Simplifying CHAMPS: Your Key to Getting Paid

If you’re applying for Michigan’s Home Help Program, one of the required steps is to be registered in CHAMPS. But what exactly is CHAMPS and how does it affect how you get paid?

What is CHAMPS?

CHAMPS stands for Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System. It is the official Medicaid provider platform used by the State of Michigan.

To receive payment through the Home Help Program, the caregiver must be registered in CHAMPS even if someone else is handling the billing.

How CHAMPS Works with Care Plan Inc

At Care Plan Inc, we take the stress out of the CHAMPS system. Here’s how it works when you enroll through us:

  • We help you register in CHAMPS so your caregiver status is approved

  • You submit your weekly hours directly to us (not through CHAMPS)

  • We enter your hours and billing into the CHAMPS system on your behalf

  • We bill the state for your services

  • We pay you directly, every week

You focus on caregiving — we handle the paperwork.

What You Need to Register in CHAMPS

To get started, you’ll need:

  • A MILogin account

  • Your Social Security Number

  • Basic identity verification

We walk you through this process from start to finish.

How CHAMPS Fits Into the Application Process

Here’s where CHAMPS comes in during your caregiver journey:

  1. The care recipient applies for Medicaid and is approved

  2. A doctor completes the DHS-54A form

  3. You complete the caregiver form (DHS-390)

  4. You are enrolled in CHAMPS with our help

  5. You track your caregiving hours and submit them to Care Plan Inc

  6. We enter your hours, bill the state, and pay you directly

Why CHAMPS Matters

While you do not submit billing in CHAMPS yourself, you must be registered and approved in the system in order for the state to recognize your role as a caregiver.

Once you're in, we take care of the rest.
