Home Help Services in Michigan for Family Caregivers

Get Paid to Support a Loved One at Home With Medicaid Help

Michigan’s Home Help Services program gives qualified residents access to in-home support with daily tasks. If you’re caring for a loved one, you may be eligible to receive payment for providing care. At Care Plan Inc., we help families navigate the process from paperwork to approval so you can get started faster.

Services You Can Get Through Michigan’s Home Help Program

  • Support essential day-to-day tasks to help individuals maintain their independence and quality of life. These services include:

    • Feeding or eating assistance

    • Bathing and personal hygiene

    • Dressing

    • Grooming

    • Mobility assistance within the home

    • Transferring from one position to another

    • Toilet use and hygiene

  • In addition to ADLs, the program may cover additional tasks that help with day-to-day living:

    • Administering or setting up medications

    • Laundry and light housekeeping

    • Meal preparation and cleanup

    • Shopping for food and medical necessities

  • The Michigan Home Help Program is not just for adults—it also provides services for minor children. These services are available when a child has significant physical, medical, emotional, or mental impairments that require higher levels of intervention than typically needed by children of the same age.

    • Supplemental Care: Personal care services supplement usual parental care and are justified by the child’s unique needs.

    • Caregiver Flexibility: If parents are unable to provide care due to a medical condition, employment, or education, another caregiver can be hired to perform activities such as ADLs, medication administration, and meal preparation.

Important Note: Parents cannot be paid caregivers for their minor children.

  • If you require additional support beyond regular Home Help services—like supervision, help with memory issues, or complex medical needs—you may qualify for Expanded Home Help Services (EHHS). This program offers enhanced assistance for individuals with more serious care needs.

  3. Choose a caregiver and complete the DHS-390 form

  4. Complete a home visit with an Adult Services Worker (ASW)

  5. Receive a care plan with approved services and hours
