I’m Approved as a Paid Caregiver in Michigan – Now What?

Congratulations! You're eligible to be a paid caregiver through Michigan’s Home Help program. But getting approved is just the beginning. Here’s what happens next:

✅ Step 1: Enroll in CHAMPS

You must register in Michigan’s CHAMPS (Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System). This involves:

  • Creating a MiLogin account

  • Completing the CHAMPS provider application

  • Undergoing a background check

✅ Step 2: Understand the Approved Care Plan

MDHHS will approve a care plan outlining:

  • What services your loved one needs

  • How many hours are authorized
You can only bill for approved services.

✅ Step 3: Set Up EVV (Electronic Visit Verification)

Michigan requires caregivers to use an app or phone to “clock in/out” of care. You must:

  • Use the designated EVV system

  • Follow instructions for each visit

  • Accurately report time and tasks

✅ Step 4: Submit Your Hours

Depending on your situation, you’ll submit:

  • ESV (Electronic Service Verification) through CHAMPS

  • PSV (Paper Service Verification) in limited cases

✅ Step 5: Get Paid

Once approved and verified, Medicaid processes payments on their regular schedule.
